La moneda oficial es el Gourde. Un dólar americano son 37 gourdes, sin embargo los haitianos hacen sus cálculos en dólares haitianos (que no existen), basándose en el cambio que había durante la ocupación americana cuando 5 gourdes equivalían a un dólar americano. Los precios suelen estar en dólares haitianos, por lo que hay que multiplicar por 5 para conocer su precio en gourdes (por 4 sale en pesetas). Siempre hay que preguntar si el precio está en dólares haitianos, americanos o en gourdes. Fácil, ¿no?

Haitians routinely refer to their own money as dollars, based upon the time of the US occupation when the exchange rate was 5 Gourde to 1 US dollar. However, Haitian Dollar coins and bank notes do not exist! Prices in shops are usually in Haitian dollars, therefore multiply by 5 to get the price in Gourdes (by 4 to get it in Pesetas). You must constantly clarify whether the price being quoted is in Haitian or American dollars, or Gourdes. Easy, isn't it?
